And there are two important things you can do today to fight for immigrant families.
Yadira Sanchez, an immigrant youth organizer who spoke on our call, was able to stop her grandfather from getting deported. Now Yadira is using that deportation defense model to #FreeYazmin. Yazmin is survivor of domestic violence with pending aslyum and U visa applications who needs support not imprisonment and deportation. We’re asking that she be released to her community, her family and her 3 US citizen kids who are suffering in her absence.
We don’t need to wait for an ICE raid to step in and defend the immigrants who are deported each day in our state. We can advance immigrant rights now by passing the California Values Act (SB 54) to ensure that state and local resources are not used to fuel mass deportations, separate families, or spread fear throughout our communities and the Due Process for All Act (SB 6) to provide access to qualified legal counsel to immigrants in deportation or removal proceedings. These critical bills are coming up for a vote.
And here’s more resources for support:
- Report ICE activity in San Francisco at this hotline: 415-200-1548. The San Francisco Immigrant Legal and Education Network will provide support 24/7 in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and Arabic.
- Report ICE activity in Alameda County at this hotline: 510-241-4011. The Alameda County Immigrant Legal & Education Partnership will provide support 24/7 in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
- Other Bay Area counties are still developing their response infrastructures — report ICE activity to the ICE out of CA statewide hotline 1-844-TRUST-01 (1-844-878-7801)
- The Immigrant Liberation Movement is also organizing a hotline and response through Migrawatch which is launching soon in San Mateo and elsewhere. You can be trained to respond to ICE raids as a legal observer that can help gather evidence to fight deportations. Migrawatch has a training this Sunday in the East Bay. Note this is the same training for those who already came to our March 4th training.
Stay tuned for more ways to defend immigrant communities, especially as we gear up for massive May Day marches! And ask your friends to sign up for our ICE volunteer team by sharing this link:
