In a speech to the California Nurses Association convention in San Francisco, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom encouraged state legislators to further the single-payer health care bill, SB 562 – The Healthy California Act.
The bill that would create a universal health care system in California to cover all state residents has been held in the state Assembly, with the inference that it is incomplete.
While Lt. Gov. Newsom did not formally endorse the SB 562 as it is currently written, he did state,“It’s time to do that now. No one is saying it’s perfect or complete, but that’s not the point. That’s what the legislative process is all about.”
Newsom vowed a “firm and absolute commitment” to pass single-payer health care if he becomes governor next year.
